Big Buddha Marina

Recently the Thai Government held an open meeting in Koh Samui to discuss their proposal to put a Government Marina in the area nearby Big Buddha. The document given out at the meeting can be found here: proposal

The Marina is intended to be built by dredging out the sand that has accumulated near the Big Buddha after the causeway was built which blocked the sea flow through the area. The proposal will cut a hole in the causeway and put in a bridge and restore the water flow - and hopefully slow down the build up of sand.

Please realise this is early days and just a proposal. It still requires significant amount of work to get approved, then it requires investment to fund it and then it requires detailed design and then construction.

Other sites have been considered and this is the current preferred location.

The proposal list the following:

38 x 12 metre berths
34 x 16 metre
30 x 20 metre
9 x 30 metre
A single fuelling station
A ramp
A crane
A "clubhouse"
Car parking Water and electricity to the berths

There was no real mention of the things like repair facilities, chandlery etc but I believe the Government thinks they can be commercially offered elsewhere / nearby.
